National Officers: Past Meets the Present

This year, FFA celebrates several significant milestones, including the 50th anniversary of the 1972-73 national officer team. Alums Zane Hansen, Bruce Erath, Bob Hinton, Tim Daugherty, Jerry Goolsby and Dwight Seegmileor returned to their FFA roots and performed the opening ceremonies during the Fifth General Session of national convention.

“It’s been 50 years since we did the opening ceremonies,” says Daughtery, the 1972-73 central region vice president. “Coming back, it’s that special feeling of being part of something that’s much bigger than we are.”

Despite the time that has passed since their election, the six say they continue to keep FFA close to their hearts. “I have worn [my] National FFA ring for over 50 years,” says Seegmileor, who served the 1972-73 National FFA president.

“Some things don’t change,” adds Hansen, the 1972-73 pacific region vice president. “The blue corduroy jacket, the values of the FFA — those things are really important.”
