At FFA, we believe that what we grow changes how the world grows.

The Forever Blue Network is about reconnecting with those who made a difference in your life, reaching out to those you can impact now and finding a new world of opportunities. As a result, our series Five Questions explores the lives of Forever Blue Network members.

This month’s Five Questions features Karl Burgeson, the owner of Agape Construction & Roofing in Chandler, Ariz.

Q1:  Tell us how FFA made an impact on your life.

Karl:  As a chapter officer in Chandler, Ariz., I was encouraged to get to know people and introduce myself to others. I grew up on a dairy farm in west Phoenix and was shy growing up. Participating in public speaking contests while in FFA was instrumental in developing my career.

Q2: What’s the best advice you’ve ever heard/been given?

Karl:  Look people in the eyes when speaking to them and when shaking their hands. Remembering names is also a huge advantage.

Q3: What was your supervised agricultural experience (SAE) or project in FFA?

Karl:  My SAE was raising registered Holstein dairy cattle for type and production. Burgeson Dairy in Chandler, Ariz., was the largest registered Holstein dairy cattle operation in the United States in the 1970s.

Q4: What is your favorite FFA memory?

Karl:  My favorite memories are judging dairy cattle on the state and national levels and participating in the National Talent Contest with “The Electric Farmers.” I won a gold emblem in both contests.

Q5:  Why do you support FFA?

Karl:  Agricultural education, science and production are vital to the world. I encourage the young adult members of FFA to grow and diversify their SAEs. As an alumnus and life member of FFA, I can set an example for the members. When I was in FFA, I wanted to participate in all of the local and state activities. It is important for youth to attend the state conventions and see proficiency award winners and Star award winners because it motivates them to be better individuals. I am also a national judge. FFA is a true blessing for all of us who are involved, so I like to meet the leaders of this excellent organization.
