With a long list of acronyms already in place, members should know one more set of letters about the National FFA Organization: NPO — it stands for nonprofit organization. As a 501(c)(3), the National FFA Organization relies on donated funds to operate. Fundraising is one piece of that puzzle. However, it can often be intimidating. Fortunately, there is a simple process to get started.

Ask for Support.

The first step in fundraising is simply to ask for donations. Begin by asking those closest to you, such as former members, FFA families or even a local FFA alumni and supporters’ chapter. They can always say no. But remember, 100% of the people who aren’t informed about your cause won’t donate.

Say Thanks.

After every fundraising effort, remember to show your gratitude. Writing a quick thank- you note is the perfect way to show your appreciation for the time and money donated to your chapter. In addition to sharing your thanks, let your donors know how the money is being used so they can feel further connected to your work.

Seek More Opportunities.

Learn more about national fundraising opportunities through FFA.org/Financial-Assistance. Many companies establish programs that offer funding opportunities to local chapters and members. If you are just beginning to explore fundraising opportunities, this is a great place to start.
