At FFA, we believe that what we grow changes how the world grows.

The Forever Blue Network is about reconnecting with those who made a difference in your life, reaching out to those you can impact now and finding a new world of opportunities. As a result, we launched a series called Five Questions to explore the lives of Forever Blue Network members.

Among other things, we’ll find out:

  • Who they are.
  • Where they are now.
  • What do they do.
  • How they do it.
  • Why.

This month’s Five Questions features Philip Eberly. Philip is from Wooster, Ohio, and is a former FFA member as well as a past Ohio state FFA officer.  He was an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University and majored in food science and technology. He was Food Science Club President and a College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences Ambassador. He plans to attend graduate school to study food science.

Q1: What made you decide your career path?

Philip:  My involvement in the milk quality and products and food science and technology career development events (CDEs) led me to pursuing a career in food science. I always enjoyed math and science in school, and these contests applied those subjects to a tangible career that I could see myself in.

Q2: If you could learn a new skill in an instant, what would it be?

Philip:  I wish I could learn a foreign language, such as Spanish, in an instant. I enjoy traveling and communicating with others, and this would enable me to do this more. As for now, Duolingo will have to do.

Q3: What was your SAE or project in FFA?

Philip:  I worked on my family’s dairy farm, so my SAE was dairy production – placement.

Q4: What was your favorite part about being in FFA?

Philip:  My favorite part about being in FFA were the contests. As a competitive person, I enjoyed the outlet in an area that was not sports-related. They also pushed me to grow my interpersonal skills and become more well-rounded.

Q5:  What’s the best advice you’ve ever heard/been given?

Philip:  The best advice I have received in this season of life is, “When you feel like stopping, remember why you started.”
