Iowa Falls FFA members gather around their winning hog at the FFA 25th Anniversary Pageant during the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Mo. Even then, the organization had established its roots in livestock showing, which gave members the chance to showcase skills learned in the classroom in a real-life setting. Skills such as proper handling and public speaking come in handy in the show ring.

Livestock shows and judging competitions have moved beyond evaluation and remain central to the lives of many FFA members today. Members learn the value of hard work, dedication, responsibility and record keeping – all from raising an animal in a way that ensures success at county and state fairs, and beyond. Whether you’ll step into the show ring this spring or plan to show your livestock in the fall, you’re part of a legacy of livestock-showing success. You share your love for the competition and care for your animals with members who came before you, and those who will come after you.
