Where Education Meets the Ecosystem

Located on Governor’s Island in New York, which includes 538 miles of waterfront, the New York Harbor School’s FFA chapter is one of a kind. After riding a ferry to school each day, members dive headfirst into two harbor-focused career and technical education programs: aquaculture and marine affairs. Through their hands-on coursework and work-based experiences, they complete certifications and study topics ranging from urban farming techniques to compost training, controlled environmental agriculture and more.

Watch and learn how FFA members in both pathways are aiming to create a cleaner and more sustainable estuary (where freshwater from rivers and streams mixes with saltwater from the ocean) — all while having fun and preparing for their futures.
