In addition to learning the FFA Creed, the blue corduroy jacket helps unite members and alumni.
In the 95 years since E.M. Tiffany first coined his now-iconic phrase, “I believe,” the FFA Creed has united FFA members, advisors, alumni and supporters in every corner of the country, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These five paragraphs represent the National FFA Organization’s values, time-honored history and traditions.
After being adopted at the third national convention, the Creed was revised at the 38th and 63rd conventions. Today, seventh through ninth-grade FFA members can compete in the Creed Speaking leadership development event, which challenges them to present the Creed from memory in an organized and professional manner, then answer a series of questions.
“Becoming a state champion FFA Creed speaker changed my life,” says Karly Anderson, a Pearland FFA member and 2024- 25 FFA in the USA reporter from Texas. “Beyond earning a title, banner or recognition, I spent 15 months studying E.M. Tiffany’s words about how we can be the future of agriculture. The Creed continues to resonate with me as I learn to have a part in the ‘inspiring task’ he writes about.”

Karly Anderson committed countless hours to memorizing and presenting the FFA Creed — an effort that led her to taking top honors in her state’s competition. Photo courtesy of Karly Anderson.
