The Careerline Tech Center: A Year of Greatness

The Careerline Tech Center AM and PM Officer Teams open banquet.
The Careerline Tech Center FFA Chapter in Michigan recently gathered to celebrate a year filled with achievements, milestones and unforgettable moments during its annual end-of-year banquet. The evening highlighted the hard work and dedication of members while recognizing the accomplishments that made the 2025-26 year one to remember.
Careerline Tech Center operates differently than many traditional FFA chapters. As a technical education center serving only juniors and seniors, the chapter is divided into both AM and PM officer teams, each consisting of 10 student leaders. Despite the unique structure, members continue to make a major impact at the district, state and national levels.
This past year brought exciting opportunities for the chapter, as two members pursued leadership positions beyond the local level. AM Chapter Secretary Maggie Smith represented the chapter as a Michigan FFA state officer candidate. Although she was not elected, Smith demonstrated determination and professionalism throughout the competitive process, giving her best effort during Phase One interviews and serving as a strong representative of Careerline Tech Center FFA.

The chapter also celebrated a historic accomplishment through Lilly Nyland, who was elected to serve as the 2025-26 National FFA Secretary. Nyland’s achievement marks a monumental moment not only for the chapter, but for Michigan FFA as a whole, placing Careerline Tech Center on the national stage.

Members also earned recognition for excellence at the Michigan FFA State Convention. Ten students received the State FFA Degree, the highest degree the Michigan FFA Association can bestow upon its members. In addition, 20 members earned the Outstanding Junior Award, recognizing their dedication and involvement within the organization.
Additional honors included Emma Mazurek earning a silver proficiency award in swine production-entrepreneurship, while 18 members were recognized with the Academic Excellence Award for their achievements both inside and outside the classroom.
Careerline Tech Center members also found success through career and leadership development events. One demonstration team consisting of Emma Mazurek and Brinsley Roetman competed successfully at the district level before advancing to regionals. The pair earned a gold rating in District V and placed fourth overall at the regional competition.

Beyond leadership events and awards, students participated in a variety of hands-on agricultural experiences throughout the year. One notable competition was the Broiler Chicken Contest, where members raised broiler chickens before taking them to a processing facility to be judged and processed as part of the educational experience.
While the banquet served as a celebration of accomplishments, it also marked a bittersweet farewell for chapter advisor Faith Scheffler. After three years of advising the chapter, Scheffler leaves behind a lasting impact on countless students who credit her leadership, encouragement and passion for agricultural education as a meaningful part of their FFA experience.

Scheffler will now begin a new chapter of her career by rechartering an FFA program. At the Shelby FFA Chapter, she looks forward to taking the lessons she has learned and continuing to inspire students through agricultural education in a new community.
As the evening came to a close, members reflected not only on the awards and accomplishments earned throughout the year, but also on the relationships, memories and leadership experiences that continue to shape the Careerline Tech Center FFA Chapter.
