National FFA Week serves as a celebration of impact, and the Mesa Vista FFA Chapter in New Mexico is exemplifying its purpose by serving and initiating fun.

Mesa Vista combined enjoyment, education and appreciation through themed dress-up days and serving the community. The chapter’s themed days for the week include: Farmers’ Day Off, Boots & Buckles, Anything but a Backpack & Camo Day, and Blue & Gold Day.

Mesa Vista FFA member Brianna Herrera says the planned dress-up days also come with a fun activity. “On Farmers’ Day Off, we wear cozy pjs and pass out hot cocoa,” she says. “For Boots & Buckles, we wear western clothes and write a big poster-sized letter to a farmer to say how grateful and thankful we are for what they do. On Anything but a Backpack & Camo Day, we bring something other than a backpack and wear camo clothes to school. For Blue & Gold Day, we wear our FFA colors and pass out popcorn.”

According to Herrera, these activities are prosperous for the chapter. “This plan is successful because it combines fun, education and appreciation,” she says. “It increases student participation, spreads awareness about agriculture and strengthens the connection between our school and the farming community.”

Alonzo Vigil, another Mesa Vista FFA member, says he appreciates the fun aspect of the week. “FFA Week is a fun way to get students and the community involved,” he adds.

Vigil says the lighthearted events make the event impactful. “I enjoy the creativity and school spirit the most because students get to dress up, do fun activities and celebrate FFA together,” he says. “It’s exciting to see everyone involved and to show pride in our school and agriculture.”

Alize Gallegos, another Mesa Vista FFA member, enjoys watching the community and the chapter interact. “I enjoy seeing our chapter and community come together to celebrate agriculture and FFA,” Gallegos says.
