National FFA Week: Celebrating Tradition, Inspiring the Future

Honoring a Legacy
Each February, chapters across the country celebrate National FFA Week to recognize the impact of agricultural education and leadership through the National FFA Organization. The organization holds the week in honor of George Washington’s birthday, recognizing his legacy not only as the first president of the United States, but also as a dedicated farmer and agriculturist.
For Vinita FFA in Craig County, Okla., this week marks one of the most exciting times of the year. It gives members the opportunity to showcase their hard work, strengthen their chapter and connect with the community.
One Bid at a Time
To kick off the celebration, Vinita FFA hosts its annual Labor Auction. This long-standing tradition brings together members, local businesses, farmers and community members for a meaningful cause. During the event, community members bid on FFA members, who then complete eight hours of work for the highest bidder. Members assist with ranch chores, farm labor, construction projects, yard work and other needed tasks.
Not only does the Labor Auction raise funds for chapter activities, competitions and leadership conferences, but it also teaches responsibility, work ethic and professionalism. Most importantly, it strengthens the bond between Vinita FFA and the Craig County community.
A Friendly Competition
In addition to the Labor Auction, members look forward to the annual Aggie Olympics. This event brings together surrounding Craig County FFA chapters for a day of friendly competition. Throughout the day, teams compete in agriculture-themed challenges that test teamwork, communication and creativity.
Although chapters compete for bragging rights, the event focuses on building connections and celebrating a shared passion for agriculture. As a result, the day is always filled with laughter, school spirit and unforgettable memories.

Tradition With a Twist
Throughout the week, Vinita FFA also hosts themed dress-up days and school-wide activities that encourage the entire student body to participate.
For example, one of the most popular traditions is Drive Your Tractor to School Day. On this day, members proudly showcase their agricultural roots by driving tractors to campus. This year, the chapter added a new twist with a “Best Dressed Duck Dynasty” group costume contest. Groups of five dressed as characters from the show, and the winning team received a prize.
These activities keep the week exciting while also highlighting the culture and humor within the agricultural community.
Growing Stronger Together
Ultimately, National FFA Week means more than just a series of events for Vinita FFA; it represents a commitment to honoring tradition, serving the community and building future leaders. From the Labor Auction to the Aggie Olympics, each activity reflects the chapter’s dedication to leadership, service and agriculture.
Above all, the week showcases the values that make Vinita FFA strong and reminds members why they are proud to represent their chapter.
