Monterey FFA small animal science students welcome their first client.
The Monterey FFA Chapter in Tennessee is bringing a new level of hands-on learning to the classroom. Thanks to recently secured Tractor Supply Company Grants for Growing funding from the National FFA Organization, the chapter has officially launched a dog grooming business within its small animal science curriculum.
The funding allowed the department to invest in professional-grade equipment, including a wash station, two high-velocity blow dryers and essential grooming tools. The students wasted no time putting the new gear to use, welcoming their very first clients — Ellie and Jethro — for a full spa treatment that included bathing, brushing and drying.

Students practice drying techniques using the new equipment.
Currently, the student-run business is operating as a “soft launch,” offering services exclusively to school faculty and staff. This allows the students and advisors to perfect their workflow and ensure quality care before expanding. Current rates for a bath and dry are set at $25 for large dogs and $15 for small dogs.

The newly installed bathing sink provides space for all size dogs, both small and large.
As the students gain confidence and the chapter establishes a consistent schedule, Monterey FFA plans to open its doors to the wider community, offering affordable grooming services to the public. Beyond grooming techniques, students will gain essential business management skills. They will be responsible for budgeting revenue to replenish supplies and maintain equipment. Any surplus funds will support student travel to FFA conventions.

Ellie and Jethro are satisfied customers.
