Michael Pritchard received an award that distinguishes himself amongst cattle breeders. Pritchard received the Ultra Black Brangus Cow- Calf Pair of the Year.
His cow named Miss Katniss and bull calf named KR Big Guns were raised right here in Lincoln County. Together, they helped Pritchard rise to the top in a highly competitive open show division that included participants of all ages.
Pritchard, a Meeker FFA freshman, says his love for showing cattle began at home. “My grandma and grandpa really inspired me to begin this project,” he shared. Their encouragement helped spark an interest in raising quality cattle for him.

In the open show division, the youth aren’t separated from the adults, meaning Pritchard was judged alongside experienced ranchers and breeders. This makes it more difficult for him, and younger breeders across the nation competing in the show. Despite this challenge, he and his cow-calf pair stood out.
As he prepares to enter high school this fall, Pritchard is already setting a strong example of what hard work and family support can accomplish. His journey with Miss Katniss and KR Big Guns is just getting started.
Pritchard lives and works on a 320-acre farm with his family, complete with four beautiful ponds and a growing herd. He currently manages 15 head of cows—all but three are bred. Cattle isn’t the only thing that he shows. He also shows sheep and pigs, but “cattle and sheep are definitely my favorite” Pritchard stated.

While most kids his age are still figuring out what’s next, Pritchard’s plans have already begun. “After losing, going back in with more energy fuels your next win!” he shared. He plans to continue his operation throughout high-school, and a possible career for him in the future.
As this hard-working young man heads into his freshman year, there’s no doubt, he has a lot of success ahead of him. With the help of his grandparents and FFA advisors he will be unstoppable in the show ring.
