The United States sets aside one special day each year to honor the men and women who have bravely served our country, and the Meeker FFA Chapter in Oklahoma proudly does the same. On Nov. 11, 2025, the chapter continued its long-standing tradition of recognizing local servicemen and women by hosting its annual Veterans Day assembly.
To honor veterans within the community, the basketball gym was filled with patriotic spirit as Meeker FFA welcomed service members from every branch of the military. The program began with the National Anthem, performed by the Meeker High School band, followed by the presentation of plaques to the veterans in attendance. Students, staff and community members gathered to recognize the bravery and dedication of those who have served in the armed forces, and the Meeker FFA officer team had the privilege of introducing each honored veteran.

This year, a Veterans Day essay contest was held across all grade levels, which was centered on the theme “Heroes Among Us.” One winner was selected from the middle school and one from the high school by a panel of judges. Kailey Helms, representing the high school, and Jett Newport, representing the middle school, were invited to present their winning essays during the assembly. Their words served as a reminder of the true meaning of Veterans Day and the importance of honoring those who protect our freedoms.

The assembly concluded with the solemn performance of “Taps,” played by band director Tony Thoma.
Each year on Nov. 11, we pause to recognize and honor the men and women who have served in the United States military. Whether they served overseas or here at home, their courage and sacrifice are deeply appreciated — on this day and every day.
