In New Mexico FFA, family ties, leadership and work ethic run deep. Roswell FFA Alumnus Chester Montgomery stands as a shining example of what it means to live the FFA motto of “Living to Serve.”

During his time in FFA, Montgomery served as Roswell FFA president, vice president and sentinel. Through those roles, he discovered his passion for service and leadership. “‘Living to Serve’ has been a saying that has revolved around my mind since I first heard it when I first joined FFA,” he says.

Today, Montgomery continues that calling as a firefighter with the Roswell Fire Department. “My career path now enables me to attend training and teach classes to better serve my community,” he says.

He also emphasizes the importance of dedication and discipline. “With great work ethic comes great reward, but also great responsibility,” he says. “Always strive for greatness.”

For Montgomery, inspiration comes from close to home: his younger brother, Lukas. “Growing up, Lukas and I always bumped heads, mainly because I was being an older brother,” he says. “However, all the years I’ve known my little brother, I’ve always looked up to him. Whether that be his huge heart, his passion for doing the right thing, his work ethic or his ability to put a smile on anyone’s face, he has always been a role model to me.”

In the same spirit, Lukas Montgomery shares deep admiration for his older brother. “My brother is an individual who consistently prioritizes the needs of others before his own,” he says.

Lukas Montgomery adds that his brother’s kindness and character continue to inspire him. “If I were to describe him to someone unfamiliar with his character, I would emphasize his selflessness, warmth and unwavering dedication to uplifting others,” he says.

The bond between the Montgomery brothers is a testament to the power of family, faith and service — values that lie at the heart of FFA. Both men embody what it means to lead with compassion and live with purpose, carrying the spirit of “Living to Serve” far beyond their blue jackets.
