Urban Farming SAE

Carlos Garcia, an 11th grader from Clark Central FFA in Athens, Georgia, shares his experience with the Young Urban Farmers Program, an SAE project that involves recruiting and training high school students to work in community gardens on a daily basis. Through this program, he has developed practical skills in produce handling, harvesting, cooking, marketing, and entrepreneurship, while learning to maximize efficiency on small plots of land. Despite challenges from physically demanding tasks and unpredictable weather, Carlos credits his SAE with inspiring him to pursue a college degree and career in agriculture or animal science.
