Mushroom Farming SAE

Nathan Gore, a 12th-grade student in the Chiefland High School FFA chapter, demonstrates his mushroom farming SAE project that has grown from 500 to 2,500 logs. The process begins during dormant season by cutting and preparing logs, drilling holes, and inoculating them with mushroom spawn, then stacking them for four to six months until mushrooms begin to fruit. After moving the logs to a fruiting house and submerging them in water, harvestable mushrooms are ready within two to three days for market sale.
