Hayden Larson, a 10th grader in the Safford FFA chapter, manages a multi-generational apple orchard on Mount Graham as his Supervised Agriculture Experience in Plant Science. His daily responsibilities include pruning, thinning, pest management, harvesting, and processing apples and other fruits, work he has been doing since age seven. Through this SAE, he has developed a strong work ethic, gained mechanical skills, and learned record-keeping and financial management, while also contributing fresh fruit to his community and hosting events at the orchard.
