The Madison FFA Chapter’s Annual Auction Grows Into Major Community Event

For the past three years, the Madison FFA Chapter in Idaho has built a new tradition — one that continues to grow bigger every year. What started as a small scholarship auction held in the school wood shop has quickly transformed into a major community event, now filling the entire gymnasium with supporters each Veteran’s Day.
The annual scholarship auction has become one of the chapter’s most impactful events, both for students and the surrounding community. Months before the auction takes place, FFA members dedicate their time and effort to gathering donations from businesses and individuals across Idaho. Their hard work pays off, as this year’s auction featured more than 100 items, ranging from a welder to Utah Jazz tickets and even a Seekins 6.5 rifle.

The event itself offers more than just bidding. Attendees are treated to a tri-tip dinner and an energetic atmosphere as they come together to support local students. With an estimated crowd of around 400 people, the overwhelming turnout reflects the strong connection between the Madison FFA Chapter and its community.
This year, that support translated into real results. The chapter raised an impressive $27,000 — all of which will go back into supporting students and strengthening the FFA program. For many members, the experience is about more than just fundraising; it’s about pride, growth and seeing their efforts make a difference.
“I feel a sense of pride from my hard work, and the way it gives back to the chapter,” says sophomore Zion Griffin, reflecting on the items he helped gather.
Others were struck by the scale of community involvement. “It’s almost overwhelming to see the community pouring in. This year, we put up all the tables in the school and still needed more,” says chapter reporter Capri Tighe. “It’s heartwarming to see how much the community cares about our chapter.”
Parents also recognize the value of the event — not just in the funds raised, but in the lessons students learn along the way. “As a parent, I love the auction,” says Brandon Tighe. “It’s a proud moment to see my kid learn so much about event planning and fundraising.”
From its humble beginnings to its current success, the Madison FFA Scholarship Auction continues to grow as a meaningful tradition. With strong community support and dedicated students behind it, the event shows no signs of slowing down and promises an even brighter future in the years ahead.
