“Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.” For nearly 100 years, this has been the motto of the National FFA Organization, and for the past 31 years, the Lucerne Valley FFA Chapter has embodied it in every way possible.
Although all four parts of the motto are important, Living to Serve stands out the most for this chapter. Service is not just something members talk about; they practice it daily through the support, dedication and care they show for one another.
Each year, Lucerne Valley FFA goes above and beyond to make sure that every member has the chance to succeed. When members take on Supervised Agricultural Experiences, the chapter helps them find ways to fund and complete them, offering guidance and encouragement every step of the way. Fundraisers are created not just to raise money but also to build community and teamwork.
When opportunities like Advanced Leadership Academy, Made For Excellence, state conference or national convention come around, the chapter ensures that no member is left behind because of financial struggles. It believes everyone deserves the chance to grow, learn and represent the chapter proudly.
Lucerne Valley FFA also encourages its members to compete not just to win, but to gain confidence and leadership skills. The chapter teaches the importance of servant leadership, putting others before ourselves and leading through kindness and action.
Troy Van Bavel, the head of the agriculture department, has guided and shaped this chapter into something truly special. His care for students goes far beyond grades or numbers; he genuinely values each member and pushes them to reach their full potential.
Though this chapter may be small, it feels like a family. Everyone knows each other’s names, goals and passions. Lucerne Valley FFA has done more than just live to serve — it has built its foundation on service, compassion and community. That is what makes it truly unforgettable.
