Jackson Young Gets Honored By American Angus Association

As first seen in the Madisonville Messenger

Local student Jackson Young, freshman student, of Madisonville North Hopkins High School has been accepted into the American Angus Association.

Young, a member of the Madisonville North Hopkins FFA Chapter, was recently named a junior member of the association, according to CEO Mark McCully.

This accomplishment is extra special considering that Young’s roots aren’t in the cattle industry.

“My mom showed cows for one year, but otherwise, I’m a first generation beef farmer,” Young said. “Showing cattle is always easier with generations of experience behind you.”

That is where the American Angus Association’s National Junior Angus Association membership comes in. As a junior member, Young is eligible to register his cattle with the association and compete in shows sponsored by the organization, as well as other local and regional events. Members also have access to scholarship opportunities, leadership training and résumé-building workshops.

In addition, members can enroll in Angus University’s BEEF program. This is a course tailored to National Junior Angus Association members and designed by industry experts.

Those opportunities will help put Young on equal footing with members who come from families who have been raising and showing cattle for generations.

Young has stated that he is excited about that opportunity.

“It was a great feeling knowing I got accepted into the Angus Association,” Young said. “They take great care of their members.”

The American Angus Association is the largest beef breed organization in the world, with more than 210,000 adult and junior members. Through its programs, the association supports farmers and ranchers in developing high-quality Angus genetics for the beef industry.
