This year, Gillespie FFA members from Section 15 in Illinois have put in a lot of effort in career development events (CDEs) and are seeing great results. The parliamentary procedure team and the ag mechanics team have especially stood out. Both teams have shown strong dedication, teamwork and skill while representing their chapter. It has been really rewarding to see their hard work pay off this season, and their chapter is proud of what they have accomplished.

Parliamentary Procedure

The parliamentary procedure team had a strong season. It earned first place at both sections and districts, which qualified them for the state competition. Parliamentary procedure is based on Robert’s Rules of Order and teaches members how to run meetings the right way. In the competition, members work together to present motions, participate in debate and follow proper meeting procedures.

Being part of this team helps members build leadership and communication skills that they can use in school, FFA and future careers. Members learn how to think on their feet, work under pressure and speak confidently in a professional setting. Their success this year shows the time and effort they put into preparing and improving.

Ag Mechanics

The ag mechanics team has also had a successful season. After qualifying for state for the past three years, members are working hard to do it again this year. The competition includes five areas: carpentry, power, welding, electricity and surveying. Each member competes in one area while also helping contribute to the overall team score.

This competition gives members the chance to apply hands-on skills and what they have learned in class to real situations. It also helps prepare them for careers in agriculture and the trades while building problem-solving and teamwork skills. Members gain real-world experience that helps build confidence and prepares them for future opportunities.
