Chasing the Spotlight: Jace Myers’ Path to Leadership

Whether competing on the basketball court, livestock judging arena, golf course or in the speech room, Jace Myers has always embraced opportunities to challenge himself. Those experiences helped shape him into the leader he is today and prepared him for his newest role as the Oklahoma FFA central area vice president.
Myers first realized that he wanted to run for Oklahoma FFA state office after attending the Oklahoma State FFA Convention for the first time. When the crowd erupted in cheers and the spotlight fell on the eight individuals on the state officer team, he knew that he wanted to be where they were standing.
“I remembered the ecstatic energy and enthusiasm members had during opening ceremonies,” Myers says. This fueled his desire to step up and lead as a state officer.
Myers graduated from Perkins-Tryon High School this May and will attend Oklahoma State University this fall. He is one of four state officers to come from Perkins, one of whom is his brother, Trey Myers, who went on to serve as the 2025–26 National FFA president.
Myers’ campaign trail was unique compared to the other candidates running for office. Basketball had been his first love, and as a senior, he wanted to give his all to his sport and team. This caused him to miss some of the county sales he had planned to campaign at.
However, things quickly picked up during a three-week stretch filled with speech competitions, livestock events, agricultural mechanics competitions and even a few golf tournaments. Myers worked extremely hard through late nights coming home from speech competitions and early mornings leaving for livestock judging, and ultimately came out victorious as the Oklahoma FFA central area vice president.
