How is the last line in the FFA motto, “Living to Serve,” shown after FFA? Genevieve Ruby-Regli served as the 2017-18 California FFA state secretary. Now, she is the co-founder and owner — alongside her husband, Matt Ruby — of Infinity Dairy, the westernmost dairy in the continental United States.

Ruby-Regli grew up in Ferndale, Calif., as a fifth generation farmer. But with six siblings, one family farm can’t support six future families. This led young Ruby-Regli to spend time throughout her time in high school and college asking people around her how difficult it would be for a young person like her to start their own dairy. The answer? “Virtually impossible.” This never set her back, though, and she used state office as a resource to learn more about the industry and what she wanted to do with her life.

Her time serving as a state officer was well-spent, focusing on and getting to know the stories of hundreds of members from around the state and forming a strong bond with them and their families. That was Ruby-Regli’s focus for her year in service: being an outlet to serve FFA members directly. Today, her focus has “transitioned from living to serve particularly FFA members, to now the broader agriculture industry,” she said.

On Nov. 1, 2022, Genevieve and Matt purchased 400 acres and began Infinity Dairy. Less than two months later, disaster struck their newly founded dairy when Ferndale was struck with a 6.4 magnitude earthquake, leading to flooding within their pasture. Being less than a mile away from the ocean, floods are a common occurrence.

With their motto of “being aggressive, pushing for and making the highest production possible,” they pushed through and continued to produce high-quality dairy. Today, Infinity Dairy has 370 dairy cattle, which they milk three times per day — doubling the amount of milk produced within the last two years.

Ruby-Regli’s advice on how to turn your own passion into a business and career is to “start interning when you’re in high school,” she said. “Find a local dairy, learn and ask questions. It doesn’t matter if they’re paying you or not — just go learn, learn, learn.”
