Agritourism SAE
Peyton Moore’s SAE is in the area of Agritourism. She works on her family’s pumpkin patch. On fall weekends, people can pick their own pumpkins, and Peyton helps to educate them about how pumpkins are grown and about agriculture in general.
Poultry and Game Birds SAE
Hunter Low’s SAE is in the area of poultry and game birds, where he raises and hatches out poultry and game birds. He sells them as full grown or as hatching eggs on his website, “Hunter’s Hatchery.”
Cooperative SAE
Natalie Massa is an alumna of Willows FFA. While in FFA, her SAE was 12.8 acres of rice, 3 ½ acres of olives and showing market sheep at the county fair. FFA, her SAEs and her agriculture teacher had a huge impact on her future and where she is today in her career as an ag. loan officer. Her SAEs showed her that she really enjoyed agriculture and talking with farmers and people within the agricultural industry.
Bucke’s Feed & Grain SAE
Madalyn Nissen’s SAE is working at her family’s feed and grain store; Bucke’s Feed & Grain. Madalyn’s SAE has grown from the beginning when she was given small tasks to now taking on more responsibility, such as working the cash register by herself.
Maisie Jane’s ™California Sunshine, Owner SAE
Maisie Jane Hurtado is an alumna of FFA and is founder and owner of Maisie Jane’s ™California Sunshine products. Her SAE when she was in FFA, was first raising of flock of registered sheep. Later, she decided she wanted to get into the almond industry. She sold the registered sheep and used that money to buy her first 2,000 pounds of almonds, developed recipes for various food products and started selling locally.
Broadhead Arrowheads SAE
Kristina Budris SAE is making and selling broadhead arrowheads. She helps to make the broadhead arrowheads with her employer and dad and sells them across the country at various sportsman shows. Her SAE has helped her to improve her public speaking skills and she has learned in the ins and outs of running a small business.
Outdoor Recreation SAE
Nick Wulfekuhle’s SAE includes him maintaining a section of the North Country Trail and working at an event center helping with agriculturally based classes for the community.
Advertising Signs SAE
Rylah Hager’s SAE is creating signs for local agricultural businesses to advertise for their businesses.

Agriculture Communications SAE
Emily Seifert’s SAE is in the area of Agriculture Communications. She writes blog posts for the agriculture blog, Raised in a Barn. Her blog posts are also featured on her chapter’s website.
Home & Community Development SAE
Allie Auch’s SAE is in the area of Home & Community Development. She participates in ride alongs with the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Department where she observes how the officers enforce the agricultural laws in Montana. She also has the opportunity to observe traffic stops, home calls, and other tasks.
Video Production SAE
Michael McKay’s SAE is in the area of Agricultural Communications, dealing specifically with video production. His SAE involves filming, editing, producing and sharing his videos with the world. He has produced various videos for his FFA chapter, Montana State FFA Association, and his school.
Agricultural Marketing Combined SAE
Hannah Lloyd and Erin Johnson work together to help organize, manage and run “Barnyard Buddies Day” event, hosted by their FFA chapter. They use their skills learned from their SAEs to effectively manage the event.
Agricultural Communications SAE
Hannah Lloyd’s SAE is in the area of agricultural communications. One of the main projects within her SAE is helping to manage and organize “Barnyard Buddies Day”, an event hosted by her FFA chapter. One of her favorite aspects about her SAE is using her voice to make a difference.
Agriculture Education SAE
Erin Johnson’s SAE is in the area of agriculture education. With this project, Erin’s focus is to educate the youth about agriculture. She realized early in her high school career at an FFA event that she enjoyed educating the youth and wanted to continue that in her future.
Goat Program SAE
Maci Amaro’s SAE is managing and organizing the Mighty Honker Goat program. This program is for students with disabilities so they can raise, show and sell a goat at the local county fair. The students inspired Maci to start this program and wanted to make sure they felt included in the FFA chapter.
Happy Souls Sock Ministry-Service Learning SAE
Taylor and Keegan Smith’s SAE is “Happy Souls Sock Ministry” and is in the service learning area. They got the idea for this SAE because they wanted to do something positive in the community and came up with the idea of donating socks to those in need. Kristyn Bauer’s SAE is creating incubation kits for classrooms to be able to hatch their own chicks for educational purposes.

Goats SAE
Tiffany Heishman's SAE is raising goats to sell to other young people to show. Her favorite part of her project is selling her goats to other kids that fall in love with them.
Rabbits SAE
McKenzie Kline's SAE is raising rabbits. Her favorite part of her project is attending shows which gives her the chance to travel and meet new people.
Horse Showing SAE
Abbey Rinker's SAE is showing horses. Abbey's grandmother is the inspiration for her project and her whole family has helped her be successful.
Poultry SAE
Rogelio Ceja helps manage the chapter’s poultry, which includes feeding and watering on the weekends. He raises the chickens for the Michigan broiler contest and one of his favorite aspects of the project is seeing the growth progression of the chickens.
Beef Entrepreneurship SAE
Abbey Dunn started her cattle herd when she was 11 years old in hopes of raising money for college. This project grew into her current SAE today where she sells some of the calves to younger 4-H and FFA members for them to show at the county fair.
Market Swine SAE
Kaylie Wilson’s SAE is in market swine production. She is raising hogs for the local county fair and for her FFA chapter to sell as a fundraiser.
Dairy Heifers SAE
Jonathan Jones SAE is in the area of dairy heifers. Through his SAE Jonathan has learned a lot about responsibility and completing tasks independently.
Sheep and Goats SAE
Kailey Clarke’s SAE is in the area of goats and sheep. She is the manager over a heard of goats and a flock of sheep for a local farmer. Some of her main responsibilities include daily feeding, watering, and maintaining the overall health of the herd.
Dairy Farm SAE
Jared Poldervaart’s SAE is working on his family farm, where they farm 270 acres and have 850 dairy cattle. Some of the beginning steps he had to take for his SAE were getting more involved with the dairy and learning about genomic testing and how it is applied to the herd.
Blue Lobster SAE
Lilly Richello’s SAE is taking care of the lobsters in the lab at school. This includes general maintenance and feeding them. One of the biggest challenges for Lilly was the number of lobsters in this project, 490 lobsters total! One thing she learned was how to better manage her time. She doesn’t always have a lot of time in the lab, so she had to learn how to get everything done in a short amount of time.
Pet Grooming SAE
Katelynn Merrifield’s SAE is in pet grooming, working at Hounds Tooth & Cats Meow in Louisville, KY. Some of her daily responsibilities are cleaning kennels, shaping the dog’s fur, bathing and cutting the dog’s nails. One of her favorite things about her SAE is seeing the dogs each day.
Vet Clinic SAE
Cheyenne Young’s SAE is working at the VCA Fairleigh Animal Hospital as a veterinarian assistant. In this role, she helps the veterinarians and the veterinarian technicians in the treatment room, with surgeries, etc. She also helps care for the animals by cleaning cages and making sure they are comfortable.
Breeding Rabbits in Urban Setting SAE
Josh’s SAE is breeding and selling rabbits. Josh has three breeds of rabbits that he works with and shows. His SAE is unique in that he conducts his SAE in the backyard of his house that is located in an urban setting.
Pet Store SAE
Denisha Washington’s SAE is working at a local pet store, Pet’s Palace in Louisville, KY. Some of her main responsibilities include cleaning clages, prepping feed and feeding and watering the animals.
Humane Society SAE
Nicole Ford has two SAEs, one at the Humane Society in Louisville, KY and the second one is at the Louisville Zoo. At the Humane Society, Nicole makes dog treats and toys. When she delivers her products, she checks on the animals and spends time with them.
Louisville Zoo SAE
Nicole Ford has two SAEs, one at the Humane Society in Louisville, KY and the second one is at the Louisville Zoo. At the zoo, Nicole volunteers in the Meta Zoo (education center). Some of her daily responsibilities include cleaning the glass, cleaning cages, checking on the animals and showing visitors the animals.
Backyard Chickens SAE
Ja'Kolbie Jones SAE is raising chickens in his backyard. He has thirteen chickens and a chicken coop as part of his SAE. He made modifications to his chicken coop in order for it to fit the size of his backyard and to have enough room for the chickens. Other duties include collecting eggs and feeding and watering the chickens.

Kent Sloan’s SAE is working in the family business at Sloan’s Seafood. Watch this video to learn the details about clam production from harvesting to processing.

Kami Harmon’s SAE is caring for and working with her lambs to get them show ready.

Biomedical Research SAE
Morgan Weidow’s SAE is in the area of biomedical research with an internship at Rocky Mountain Laboratories, a biomedical research facility. Part of her responsibilities include assisting with laboratory procedures and experiments while also maintaining laboratory safety equipment.
Ctenophore SAE
Grace Ramcke and Hannah Colonese’s SAE is culturing mnemiopsis leidyi to study the bio-luminescence of the organism, also called ctenophore, which may be used in humans to trace the brain patterns of patients with PTSD.
Environmental Service Systems
Beekeeping SAE
Nathan Laurenz’s SAE is beekeeping. He currently has five hives and he manages and protects them. At the end of the year he harvests the honey. One of his favorite aspects of his project is working with the bees.
Soil and Water Conservation District SAE
Madison Blanton’s SAE is working for the local soil and water conservation district. She enjoys all aspects of her SAE; from working in the office to working outside with the various projects. Through her SAE she has learned about a variety of things such as financial management and government policies and procedures.
Recycling SAE
Raymond Pan’s SAE is recycling. His SAE involves collecting all of the recyclables around the school and making sure they get recycled properly. He got interested through a similar activity at the Georgia state convention where they had to pick up trash. He realized that there are a lot of waste issues and how important it is to recycle.
Green Space SAE
Amanda and Elise Ochieng’s SAE is a joint SAE in which they are working together to create a green space to grow produce at their high school. They are learning what it is like to work within the small available space at their high school.
Mycelium SAE
Michaela Carmichael started her SAE when she noticed the effects the pig waste was having on the environment. She wanted to determine a cost-effective way to help her pig’s health and the surrounding environment. That is when she turned to mycelium. Watch this video to learn all about mycelium and how she turned this into her SAE.
Research-Composting SAE
Jordan Butler & Amari Manago’s SAE is research-based, researching the barriers of urban composting. They wanted to determine ways to reduce solid waste. Additionally, they wanted to help others learn to compost.

Kayley Pennington and Cheyenne Bolender’s composting SAE consists of taking the food waste from their school cafeteria to their compost bin located on their land lab. They use the compost to create healthy soil for the agriculture department. Watch this video to learn more about their SAE!

School Garden & Food Dishes SAE
Lindsay, Eric, Kailey Lipka’s SAE is working in the school garden to grow various crops, which they then use to make food dishes such as salsa. They got started with this SAE because they wanted to do something together. Their teacher helped them to plan the garden and create a schedule of crops. Learning about food production in Food Science class also peaked their interest for this SAE. One of the challenges with this project was having to work in the pouring rain, but they knew they had to because those would be some of the only days they could come in to work.

Kylie’s SAE is working at the local meat processing facility. Her daily tasks include processing meat, labeling meat, and helping with the safety and sanitation of the facility.

Fly Tying SAE
Dylan Gonzales’s SAE is fly-fishing more specifically fly tying. His fly tying includes some traditional methods and he is able to learn about entomology through his SAE.
Mapping of River SAE
Fiona Haggerty’s SAE is mapping the Quinnipiac River and trail and helping the Quinnipiac River and Trail Committee. She was motivated to start this particular SAE because the river was close and she wanted to help the community. She has learned different paddling techniques and about the Arc GIS technology.
Vermicomposting SAE
Ethan Shelden’s SAE is vermicomposting or composting with worms. With this SAE he tests a variety of factors such as soil pH, the temperature and moisture content of the soil.
National Forest SAE
Cayla Miller’s SAE is working in the Cherokee National Forest where she performs a variety of tasks such as checking the pH balance of various waterways. Watch her video to learn more about this SAE!

Hannah Orndorff's SAE is growing plants utilizing aeroponics. Not being from an ag background, Hannah can grow plants without soil or lots of land.

Ashley Yanego's SAE involves working at a floral shop. She enjoys working with the people in the shop where she learns something new everyday.
Forage and Grain Crop Production SAE
Kyle Tintzman’s SAE is in the area of Forage and Grain Crop Production. He and his family farm approximately 300 acres, which include barley and alfalfa. One of his favorite things about his SAE is watching the crops grow and producing a productive crop.
Forage Production SAE
Rebeka Newburn’s SAE is in the area of forage production. In this project, she will cut the hay, let it dry out, rakes it and bales it. Her favorite part about her SAE is the rush and excitement that comes with getting the hay up before the rain moves in.
Olive Oil SAE
Giovanni Garcia & Luke Anderson’s SAE is a school-based project working on the school farm where they fertilize, label and harvest the olive oil. Some skills they have learned through this SAE is hard work and communication.
Ranch Foreman, Orchard SAE
Jared Mudd’s SAE is serving as a ranch foreman for an orchard. He works on planting trees, checking trees, irrigating, etc. He had grown up in the area and saw that a lot of people were getting into the orchard business and he wanted to learn more. One of the challenges he faces with this SAE is managing his time between school work and work. He overcomes that by keeping notes and staying organized.
Organic Oat Hay SAE
Bailey Morrell’s SAE is 74 1/2 acres of certified organic oat hay. Having grown up on a cattle ranch and having a lot of experience in the animal industry, Bailey wanted to learn more about the plant science side of agriculture. One of the beginning steps for her SAE was learning about and going through the process to become organically certified.
Prune Orchard SAE
John Zuppan’s SAE is working on his family’s prune orchard. He performs various tasks through his prune orchard SAE, such as pruning, painting the trees to prevent sunburn, mowing, etc. Through his SAE, one thing he has learned is the true meaning of hardwork.
Succulents SAE
Silvio Barnes’s SAE involves working in the school greenhouse where he grows and propagates succulents. His SAE has grown from the beginning from first having 15 plants to now having over 100. One thing he has learned from this SAE is patience because it is not a quick process to watch plants grow. One activity from the classroom that has helped with his SAE is the research component. This helped him to learn specifics about special types of succulents.
Micro Algae SAE
Abbigail Lozon’s SAE is growing four different types of micro algae. The algae is different sizes and is fed out to a variety of species in the lab. Some of the beginning steps she had to do was completing extensive research on algae and going through a training process with one of her teachers.
Hydroponics SAE
Giovanni Roman’s SAE is working in the school greenhouse, specifically with different types of hydroponic systems in the greenhouse. He uses a variety of hydroponics to grow different types of plants. This SAE will have a direct impact on his future because he plans to major in engineering in college and this SAE has helped to give him a background in how things work.
Young Urban Farmer’s Program SAE
Carlos Garcia's SAE is working in the Young Urban Farmer’s Program in Athens, GA. Some of the skills he has learned are proper handling and harvesting of produce, cooking, marketing skills and entrepreneurship skills.
Sports Turf Management SAE
Michael Netherton's SAE is in sports turf management working at the Louisville Bats stadium on the grounds crew in Louisville, KY. One of his favorite things about his SAE is being around baseball.

Nathan McDonald's SAE is making wooden-bodied pens. Nathan's inspiration for his project was his grandfather. A few years ago, he made pens for every teacher in school for FFA Week.
Implement Dealership Placement SAE
Keegan Humm’s SAE is a placement project working at a local implement dealership. Some of his favorite aspects of the project are seeing co-workers every day and seeing the behind the scenes of a business. He has learned valuable skills from his project such as team work and communication.
Building Cattle Pens SAE
Staten Castillo’s SAE is a placement SAE on a local ranch where he builds pens for working cattle. One of the skills he acquired in this SAE was learning to operate new equipment.
Pallet Planter SAE
Giancarlo Lomanto’s SAE is repurposing pallets into pallet planters. When working at a summer job, he noticed some old pallet planters that were in need of repairs. This sparked his interest to make improvements to the old ones and build new ones as well. He first had to determine what materials he would need for the job. Advice that he would give to other students starting their SAE is to look for an SAE that is interesting to you, challenging, but something you would enjoy.
Drones in Agriculture SAE
Jacob Reed’s SAE is drones in agriculture and is in the agricultural business career focus area. When Jacob was younger, he was interested in radio control technology and helping people.
