Lucas Oil Stadium Transforms for the National FFA Convention
Lucas Oil Stadium is hosting more than the Indianapolis Colts this week. The venue is preparing to welcome over 70,000 FFA members and guests for the 99th National FFA Convention and Expo.
The transformation began immediately after the Indianapolis Colts game Sunday, giving workers and production crews a limited window to prepare the stadium for the convention.
Christine White, who helps oversee preparations, says safety remains the top priority as teams work to get the venue ready.
“Obviously our number one concern, not only for getting our staging and getting all of our venues together, is safety, but it’s also the safety of our members,” White says.
Preparing a venue of this size takes coordination between multiple teams and crews throughout Indianapolis working together to make the event possible.
“We rely on the union, we’re reliant on production companies, we rely on a lot of people here in Indianapolis to come together and help put this event on for us,” White says.
With so many organizations working together on a tight schedule, coordinating the setup can be challenging. White described the process as “a logistical nightmare sometimes,” with teams working to determine how everything fits together.
Despite the challenges, crews have continued working to prepare the stadium in time for the convention. White says the teams have done an exceptional job completing the setup in a short period while keeping safety at the forefront.
Their work helps turn a major sports venue into a gathering place for FFA members from across the country, bringing the convention to life through teamwork, coordination and careful planning.
