Beyond the Blue Jacket: The Seeds We Leave Behind

For Lola Frink, serving as the 2025–26 Louisiana FFA state vice president representing Area I was never about the title; it was about the journey, the people and the purpose behind the blue jacket.

The moment she first put on her state officer jacket marked a turning point. Though she had already held the position for weeks, receiving the official Louisiana FFA Association jacket with her name stitched on the front made everything real. “That was the moment everything started becoming real to me,” Frink says. It symbolized three years of dreaming and growth culminating in an opportunity to represent an organization that had shaped her into who she is today. Surrounded by nine of her closest friends, she felt an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude.

Throughout her year of service, Frink discovered that leadership isn’t about perfection, but instead it’s about authenticity. “Being a leader is being real and authentic,” she says. For years, she believed she had to fit a certain mold, mirroring others to succeed. However, this experience taught her that true leadership comes from being genuine and embracing vulnerability. She learned that asking for help is not a weakness but a strength, and that growth begins when you accept yourself fully.

One of the most transformative moments of her year came during a difficult time after her final area leadership development event competition. Battling self-doubt, Frink questioned her impact and worth as a leader. Reflecting on that moment, she said, “Oftentimes, we don’t see the fruits of our effort. It is our job to plant the seed, but we may never see the plant grow.” Through the encouragement of her teammates and a powerful realization sparked by her younger brother’s admiration, her perspective shifted. She began to give herself more grace and recognize the unseen impact she was making.

Her year was filled with unforgettable memories, late night preparations, chapter visits, spontaneous adventures and laughter shared over games and songs. Whether it was singing, having meaningful conversations or simply enjoying the moment, Frink learned to embrace life fully. As she puts it, “You only live once…why not enjoy every moment?”

As she steps into her next chapter at Louisiana Tech University, majoring in accounting with a minor in business management, Frink plans to remain deeply connected to agriculture. Her goal is to build a career in agricultural business while maintaining a fulfilling personal life centered around family and meaningful experiences.

Even beyond her official role, Frink’s commitment to FFA remains strong. She hopes to stay involved through alumni chapters, conventions and possibly even pursuing national office. For her, FFA is not just an organization—it’s a lifelong community.

When reflecting on what “Beyond the Blue Jacket” means, Frink emphasizes identity. “You have to know who you are beyond the blue jacket,” she says. While FFA is a significant part of her life, she has learned the importance of understanding who she is outside of it—an important lesson for every member navigating their own journey.

“Legacy isn’t what they remember you by, it’s how you made them feel long after you’re gone.”

Her message to Louisiana FFA members is simple, yet powerful: don’t let fear hold you back. “It’s okay to be afraid, but you cannot let it stop you,” she says. Embrace every opportunity, shift your perspective and recognize the privilege in the challenges you face.

Frink doesn’t expect to be remembered by name or title. Instead, she hopes her legacy lives on in how she made others feel. “People won’t remember my name…but they will remember how we made them feel.” When the applause fades, what remains are the lives touched, the love shared and the impact that continues to grow long after the jacket is hung up.

And that is a legacy that goes far beyond the blue jacket.
