Central DeWitt FFA Holds FFA Week Middle School Roundup

Central DeWitt middle schoolers had a blast playing “The Bag Game!”
National FFA Week is a weeklong celebration of FFA and agricultural education. The Central DeWitt FFA chapter in Iowa celebrated with teacher breakfasts, free energy drinks for the student body, and by reading farm stories to elementary students. On that Friday, however, the chapter’s leadership team took the short walk to the middle school gym to hold an assembly for students on the brink of joining FFA. With plenty of free T-shirts and hype music, the middle schoolers were in for a treat.
No Horsing Around
To start out the assembly, chapter officers performed a short skit to introduce the students to FFA. They talked about things such as leadership opportunities, contests, community service, and real life skills that FFA members can do and learn. With the skit ending in some hype music, a T-shirt toss, and members waving flags and running around in animal costumes, the chapter officers introduced themselves and prepared for games.
To start off, students used bouncy horses to barrel race across the gym floor. With “The Race is On” by Sawyer Brown in the background, students bounced and tumbled around the barrels to try to get their team to win. The next game was the partner bag toss. Both partners toss a grocery bag in the air and run to catch the other partner’s bag. With 64 students spanning the length of the gym, groups were eliminated one by one until a winner was crowned.
Standing Up for Agriculture
The final activity was used to show students how important agriculture is. Students were told to stand up and stay standing if they had things such as parents who farmed or grandparents who farmed, or if they ate food. Once everyone was standing, the leadership team closed out the assembly by talking about the importance of agriculture in our world and encouraged students to get involved as the future of agriculture.
Overall, the middle school assembly was a massive success. The middle school students were energetic and engaged, and the leadership team was well prepared. It was a great way to cap off FFA Week for the Central DeWitt FFA chapter, and they can’t wait to host more in the future.
