Shared smiles, calloused hands and the brilliant ebullience of national blue and corn gold. National FFA Week is a celebration of the agriculture that binds our world together. Whether it be generational farms, row crops or industrial powerhouses, agriculture takes several impactful forms.

Similarly, every year, FFA chapters across America recognize the importance of agriculture in creative and memorable ways. Palmyra FFA in Missouri is no exception

The chapter’s annual Murder Mystery Night is an iconic National FFA Week event where members race to solve a murder. The night of immersive role play offers a place for everyone, including being a character, a detective or a nosy citizen enjoying the snacks as the drama unfolds. The most legendary themes include vampires and the Kentucky Derby. Members dress their best while working together to unmask the killer before the night’s end.

Both members and alumni alike anticipate the event every February. Particularly, Palmyra FFA member Phoebe LaSala possesses a special fondness for the inclusive event. “Everyone had their place,” she says. “Creative people got to play the characters, competitive people got to race to figure out who the murderer was and the rest of us got to socialize and eat food while searching for the killer.” She admired the teamwork and fellowship Palmyra FFA exhibited as it worked toward the collective goal.

The Palmyra FFA Chapter’s annual Murder Mystery Night is only one example of thousands of ways to commemorate agriculture in our daily lives. This National FFA Week, let us applaud the value of being a future farmer, from capturing pretend killers to bonding in fellowship with like-minded members.
