Meeker FFA Chapter officers recently attended the Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) Conference, which was held at the Embassy Suites in Norman, Okla. This year’s conference carried the theme “Take Aim,” encouraging FFA leaders to focus on their goals in leadership. During the event, Meeker FFA Vice President Baylee Weeks was selected to serve as president for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
The event was organized and led by the Oklahoma FFA State Officer Team, which provided interactive sessions to strengthen chapter leadership across the state. The conference featured keynote speaker Kelly Barnes, a Webbers Falls FFA Alumnus now residing in Edmond, Okla. Barnes inspired attendees by sharing the importance of recognizing their leadership roles and using their abilities to positively impact their schools and communities.
In addition to the keynote speaker, state officers facilitated workshops that challenged chapter leaders to think critically, respond quickly to challenges and practice problem-solving skills that translate directly into real-world leadership situations. Following the conference, Meeker FFA had the opportunity to host Oklahoma FFA State Secretary Coy Davidson for lunch. This provided chapter officers with the chance to connect more personally with state leadership.
When asked about what the state officers hoped to accomplish at the COLT Conference this year, Oklahoma FFA Central Area Vice President Hudson Andrews said, “It’s hard to express the blessing it was to be able to facilitate the Central Area COLT Conference. From the energy that was brought, to getting to see the excitement on the members’ faces, it made it that much more special.”
Andrews also recently attended the Meeker FFA Chapter picnic. “This year, we focused on setting eyes ‘On Target’ and then ‘Taking Aim,’” he adds about facilitating the COLT Conference. “More specifically, we worked on situations that could possibly happen in a banquet and how to prepare ahead of time. I hope that not only did the students learn how to plan for their banquets, but also how to plan for other situations they may face in the future.”
