Living to Serve, No Matter the Distance

Minnesota FFA state officers tap the gavel together at the Minnesota State Leadership Convention.
It’s uncommon to see state FFA officers travel outside of their respective states to attend a college program. However, for Minnesota State President Cameron Addington and Minnesota State Treasurer Hailey Chambers, it is an everyday experience. These two state officers have decided to continue their agricultural education at Iowa State University, all while serving the Minnesota FFA Association.
Although the two officers are outside Minnesota during the year, they dedicate a great deal of time to ensuring their members are being served. It is important for state officers to know how to serve members of their associations directly.
Addington and Chambers’ passions had to begin somewhere. It was their parents’ initial involvement in FFA that sparked their initial passion to serve. Both officers have still developed a love to support Minnesota FFA members within their year of service, though. According to Addington, “there are 200 active FFA chapters in Minnesota,” which means the officer team must ensure that each member from each chapter feels represented.

Chambers said what sets the association up for success is connecting with members during their summer conferences. She adds that the conferences are “more than surface-level connections with members.”
According to Addington, “every interaction has been to make members feel known and loved” within conferences. Every interaction with Minnesota members creates a lasting impression with the team. It builds a strong connection to their members at the beginning of the state officer’s terms.

As Addington and Chambers close their year of service, they are reminded of the legacy they can leave with Minnesota FFA members. “I hope I can leave a strong impact on the members,” Addington says. By ensuring success inside the Minnesota FFA Association, the state officer team will make a lasting impact on their year of service.
