In FFA, the motto ends with “Living to Serve,” a phrase that represents giving back to others, supporting your community, and putting others before yourself. Few people embody that better than Karen McClure.

McClure has been a special education aide since 2008, but that’s not where her job stops. She is most likely seen at every FFA event from the Christmas Craft Show to the annual chicken auction and everything in between. Whether it’s setting up or cleaning up for the banquet, serving food, helping in the greenhouse, or working concessions, she’s always there with a warm smile to greet you.

McClure first got involved with FFA because her kids and students were part of it. “My kids were in it, and so are some of my students I assist,” she shared. What started as support for her children has turned into a true passion. She has now been an Upshur County FFA Alumni and Supporter for five years, and her dedication continues to shine through in everything she does.

She is the quiet one behind the scenes, prepping the kitchen, organizing food, and keeping things running smoothly. “Very rarely is she in the spotlight,” Mrs. Snyder shared, “but she 1000 percent deserves to be recognized. She is a wonderful example of what it means to serve.”

FFA members and staff see the difference she makes every day. Mr. Payne said, “I really appreciate the time and dedication she’s given to our chapter. She’s always willing to help, and without people like her, we couldn’t do half of the things we do.”

From her children to her grandchildren, McClure has supported FFA for two generations. Upshur County FFA member Marian said, “I love how thoughtful she is and how she takes her personal time to come out and help with our FFA activities.”

McClure loves everything about FFA, including the fundraiser, the monthly meetings, the classwork, and the chance to learn alongside her students. Her dedication to the success of those around her is seen daily, and her kindness never goes unnoticed.

She may not ask for recognition, but she more than deserves it. She is proof that true service doesn’t always need to be loud. Sometimes it is shown through quiet, consistent care and a heart that’s always willing to help. She is a wonderful example of what it means to serve.
