Spencerville FFA Members Share Kindness During National FFA Week

During the week of February 22–28, 2026, chapters across the country were celebrating one of the most meaningful traditions in agricultural education: National FFA Week. This special week recognizes the dedication and hard work of FFA members—from community service projects and Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs) to honoring advisors and alumni who continue to support the organization’s mission.
In the small town of Spencerville, Ohio, FFA members Leah Elling and Eli Johnston chose to celebrate the week in a heartfelt way. They saw it as the perfect opportunity to give back to their community by visiting the residents of Roselawn Manor. Some residents may not receive visitors often, and others may not have known much about FFA, but the smiles that filled the room made the visit truly worthwhile.
On February 25, 2026, Leah and Eli arrived at Roselawn Manor carrying buckets of flowers and warm smiles. What may have seemed like a simple gesture quickly turned into something much more meaningful. As they handed out flowers, they took time to sit and talk with each resident. Conversations flowed easily—stories about their childhoods, memories of school days, raising families, and how much the community has changed over the years. Laughter echoed through the halls, and for a while, it didn’t feel like just a visit—it felt like family stopping by.
The hour trip passed in what felt like only minutes. Leah and Eli not only brightened the residents’ day, but they also walked away with a deeper appreciation for the generations who built the community they are proud to call home. The experience reminded them that agriculture is more than crops and livestock—it is about people, relationships, and service.
FFA Week is about celebrating the impact of the National FFA Organization, but it is also about living out its motto: Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. Through their visit to Roselawn Manor, Leah and Eli truly demonstrated what it means to serve, proving that sometimes the simplest acts of kindness can leave the biggest and most lasting impression.
