For the Williamsfield FFA Chapter, the FFA motto of “Living to Serve” comes to life through its alumni support. Joanie Stiers has dedicated years to helping students, strengthening the program and improving her community.

Stiers says that her core value is service. “I feel genuinely called to serve others, and to make a meaningful difference within our family, on our farm and throughout our community,” she adds. That calling has shaped everything she does, from organizing community events to mentoring students as they prepare for competitions.

Williamsfield FFA Advisor Kent Rigg describes her as “the model for living to serve,” crediting her with helping prepare students, leading events and inspiring growth.

“She volunteers as a coach, a contest judge and plays a huge part in our Ag Day celebration,” Rigg says. “Without her, our small community couldn’t make this event grow each year.”

Her leadership extends beyond the classroom. Stiers played a key role in the town’s barn-themed playground project, helping secure donations, recruit volunteers and manage the build. Thanks to her efforts, the playground was completed and has served thousands of local children.

Alumni President Brandon Hall says Stier’s influence has been transformational. “She devotes countless hours to supporting students,” he says. “Whether it’s reviewing record books or conducting mock interviews, she ensures every student feels prepared and confident.”

Members say her guidance has made a lasting difference. “Ever since I started my journey in FFA, Joanie has been there,” says Williamsfield FFA Chapter Secretary Hannah Gehring. “She’s spent countless hours organizing events, compiling study materials and conducting mock interviews. When I competed in Creed Speaking, she helped me perfect every question and hand movement. I wouldn’t have been as successful without her support.”

Stiers says her drive comes from growing up in a small town where volunteerism is vital. “Unlike larger cities with quick access to resources, our community relies on volunteers for everything, from youth sports to community events,” she says. “Giving back brings me purpose and joy.”

Her favorite projects reflect that purpose: the Ag Day Festival and the Williamsfield FFA Classroom. “The Ag Day Festival is truly the ultimate service experience,” Stiers says. “It’s free to the public and powered by more than 150 volunteers. You’d be hard-pressed to find another event that radiates so much joy in just a few hours.”

According to Williamsfield FFA Chapter President Ella Rigg, “Joanie embodies the idea of ‘Living to Serve.’ She dedicates her time to our community and FFA chapter. Our annual Ag Day wouldn’t be as successful — or even possible — without her leadership.”

For Stiers, seeing students succeed is the most rewarding part. “I’m gaining more from the blue jacket now than I ever did when I wore it myself,” she says. “It brings me immense joy to watch students discover their strengths and grow throughout their FFA journey.”

Her advice for members is simple yet powerful. “Find what you’re good at and use those gifts to make a difference for others,” she says. “The impact you’ll create and the fulfillment you’ll feel will bring lasting joy to your soul.”
