When I think of the words “living to serve” inside of Bokoshe, Okla., the first people I think of are the Carvers. Dr. Max Carver, his wife, Dawn, and their two daughters run a service program in memory of their late son and brother, Logan. They built their program based on the phrase “living to serve” and named it the Logan Project.

This family hosts multiple events in Logan’s name to serve their community. These include beautification projects, food and clothing drives and supporting the Bokoshe FFA Chapter by donating monthly goodie bags to its members. Logan was extremely dedicated to FFA and serving his community, as well as his chapter.

This family also offers a scholarship every year and presents it to an FFA member who lives to serve, like Logan did throughout his life. These Bokoshe FFA Alumni continue to support their and Logan’s love of FFA by always being the first to step up. Bokoshe FFA partners with the Logan Project when attending or hosting service events, dedicating every project to Logan.

Although the Carvers chose to start this program after experiencing a great loss, you do not have to wait for a reason to serve your community. For example, the Carvers help by donating whenever they find the chance. Donations are something everyone can participate in, whether you are donating funds, food, clothes or your time; everything helps.

The Carver family also attends every community service function to help support Bokoshe families and community members. You can also support your community by being an active member and always being ready to help.

Although raising enough money for a small scholarship may be out of the question for most members, creating goodie bags or care packages can be a much simpler task. The Carvers often supply Bokoshe FFA with a bag for each member, including a drink and a couple of snacks, but you can fill your goodie bags with whatever you see fit for those you are donating to. Depending on your project and message, you may want to fill the bags with themed snacks, classroom supplies, personal hygiene products or a pamphlet about your project.

Anyone can live to serve, whether for FFA or your community, and I hope to inspire you to do so. Live to serve just like Logan did, and like his family continues to do.
