Living up to the FFA motto of “Living to Serve,” members of the Tyrone Area FFA Chapter have been dedicating their time and labor to the residents of Cedarwood Rehabilitation Center in Tyrone, Pa. These FFA members have planted flowers, played games and created moments of connection to brighten the lives of Cedarwood’s residents.

“These students work hard to foster a sense of connection and joy within their small community and truly embody the FFA motto,” says Tyrone Area FFA Advisor Tiffany Hoy.

Through their visits, the chapter aims to brighten the lives of the Cedarwood residents. Members assist with a wide range of activities geared toward the residents’ interests. From holiday crafts and art projects to games (such as Mario Kart and Just Dance), puzzles and rounds of bingo, there is always something to spark joy and connection.

Recently, a group of Tyrone FFA members decorated the exterior of Cedarwood, enhancing the surroundings with vibrant flowers and plants. Junior member Wyatt Walls enjoys bringing his energy to the facility.

“I love going to Cedarwood because I know how much happiness a new face can bring,” he says. “Whether we’re planting flowers, making cool stuff, or just swapping stories and having a casual conversation, it’s rewarding to be a part of their day.”

With the residents’ help, the members created an assortment of mixed planters, adding a touch of color to their facility.

Thanks to a recent grant, the chapter also plans to install raised flowerbeds around the facility. This addition will enhance the space and provide residents with a sense of belonging and responsibility.

“Seeing the residents happy brought me joy,” says Tyrone FFA Student Advisor Bailey Woomer. “It hit me hard because it showed me what people are missing. It was a reality check for me. Their smiles and laughter made me feel truly welcomed.”
