Building Belonging Through Agvocate’s Journey

Missouri FFA State Officer Taylor Nothdurft is proving that advocacy can start with something as simple as a social media post. Through her growing program, Agvocate’s Journey, she is giving FFA members a platform to share their stories while promoting agriculture and inspiring others to become involved.

Nothdurft’s journey with the program began when she noticed her social media following was slowly growing. At first, her posts were lighthearted and focused on sharing fun TikToks, FFA trips and everyday moments in agriculture.

Over time, she realized that social media could be much more than entertainment — it could be a powerful tool for advocacy. That realization sparked the creation of Agvocate’s Journey, a space dedicated to highlighting the unique experiences of FFA members and spreading awareness about agriculture.

The heart of the program is captured in its slogan, which is “Every Jacket Has a Story.” Nothdurft believes that no two members enter FFA for the same reason. Some grow up surrounded by agriculture, while others step into their first blue jacket with little background at all. Agvocate’s Journey celebrates those differences and shows that FFA is an organization where everyone belongs. Through each shared story, Nothdurft hopes to inspire others to become more involved and confident in their place within FFA.

For Nothdurft, the program is also deeply personal. She created Agvocate’s Journey as a way to give back to the organization that shaped her into the leader she is today. Rather than focusing on her own story, she wanted to uplift the voices of members across Missouri FFA and beyond. Since launching the program, five stories have been shared, and applications continue to arrive almost daily — a sign of how eager members are to share their journeys.

Each story carries meaning, and Nothdurft says choosing just one favorite is impossible. Participants often express increased confidence and excitement after being featured. Being recognized within the organization helps them feel seen, valued and empowered to continue advocating for agriculture.

Participants gain more than just a spotlight. They develop communication skills, build confidence, grow as leaders and strengthen their resumes. They also have the opportunity to connect with other FFA members and share agriculture with a larger audience. Members who want to get involved can apply through the link in Nothdurft’s bio by finding @taylor_nothdurft_ffa on Instagram.

Her advice to future advocates is simple: start now, be genuine and never be afraid to share your story. Looking ahead, Nothdurft hopes to expand Agvocate’s Journey even further, with dreams of turning the platform into a podcast to share stories in a deeper and more personal way.

“At the heart of Agvocate’s Journey is the belief that agriculture is strongest when every voice is heard,” Nothdurft says. “When we listen to each other’s stories, we build connection, understanding and a future where every FFA member knows they belong.”
