At the 98th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Ind., Meeker FFA Alumnus Blake Weeks was awarded the highest award in his proficiency area of swine production — entrepreneurship. As a national winner, he was recognized on stage in Lucas Oil Stadium.
Throughout Weeks’ high school career, he worked tirelessly to raise sows and sell piglets across multiple states. He was an involved member of the Meeker FFA Chapter, and is currently an animal science student at Redlands Community College, where he is on the livestock judging team. In high school, Weeks participated in prepared public speaking, opening and closing ceremonies, and livestock judging. His participation helped prepare him for beyond high school and improve his future.
Along with his national proficiency award, Weeks’ earned his American FFA Degree, the highest degree available for FFA members to obtain. For Weeks, the award is more than a title; it’s a milestone that he plans to continue.
“What I will say on trying to make it to the national level is that it is hard,” he says. “Lots of long days on AET with Mr. Johns and spending as much time working on my own operation have allowed me to grasp this opportunity.”
The Meeker FFA Chapter was proud of his representation on the national level, and the hard work he put in to get there. Without the work he put in behind the scenes, none of this would have been possible. Winning at the national level is a huge accomplishment, and allowed Weeks to achieve a goal he had worked toward for the duration of his high school career.
