The James River FFA Chapter combined agriculture and fun by engaging the community at the Eagle Rock Library in Botetourt County, Va.
Virginia FFA members Canaan Clark and Katie Grace Barrett, along with their advisor, Kate Chilcott, led a birdhouse building workshop and people of all ages participated. Leading the workshop was a first for these FFA members, but they showed resilience and problem-solving skills as they worked through challenges. While proudly representing their chapter, members had an opportunity to teach guests how to safely use a variety of power tools.
At the end of the day, when asked if she would consider hosting another workshop, Chilcott said, “I really like that idea. We will bring it up at our next weekly officer meeting.”
Other members provided children with hands-on experiences, including learning how to make butter from scratch, playing bingo and competing in agriculture trivia.

Steady hands and teamwork bring each birdhouse to life!
“Living to Serve”
From helping families to building birdhouses, James River FFA members showed their passion and pride for agriculture while embodying the FFA motto.
“Eagle Rock Agricultural Day is an incredible experience because it incorporates many different people, companies and organizations that come together to back one common goal: supporting agriculture in Botetourt County,” says James River FFA President Lacey Smith.
Seven members attended the event and made a lasting impact. Despite being a small group, members planted seeds for the next generation of agriculturists. When members weren’t interacting with guests at the chapter’s station, they passed the time by coloring and making butter in a demonstration open to anyone who wanted to try their homemade creation.
