INDIANAPOLIS (Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014/National FFA Organization) – Southern States is supporting the National FFA Organization by selling paper FFA emblems for $1 starting today through March 24 at participating Southern States stores.
"We are proud to sponsor the I’m Supporting FFA’ campaign," said Southern States President and CEO Thomas R. Scribner. "Our company has a rich heritage of working with FFA and hopes the public will assist with the project by supporting the effort and contributing $1 for a personalized paper FFA emblem."
After emblems are purchased at the cash register during checkout, customers can sign their paper FFA emblem to publicly show their support of FFA. Emblems will be displayed in each Southern States store.
All proceeds benefit local, state and national FFA.
"We are deeply appreciative of Southern States and the company’s assistance to raise financial support for FFA and heighten community awareness about our organization," said National FFA Foundation President Molly Ball. "Money donated by Southern States customers will help ensure that we’re able to continue to develop students’ leadership, growth and career success potential."
Established in 1923 as Virginia Seed Service, Southern States started with 150 original farmer members to develop a reliable supply of clover and grain seeds better suited to the soils found in Virginia. The company changed its name to Southern States Cooperative 10 years later and grew into to a multi-state agriculture supply cooperative with more than 200,000 members in 11 states.
Southern States now serves co-op members and retail customers through more than 200 company-owned retail stores, managed cooperatives and agronomy facilities. In addition, a private dealer network of nearly 300 locations distributes Southern States products throughout the southeast.
The National FFA Foundation is the fundraising arm of the National FFA Organization, which provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 579,678 student members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,570 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
