INDIANAPOLIS (Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016/National FFA Organization) – William Nelson, retired executive director of the CHS Foundation, has been awarded the VIP Citation by the National FFA Organization, recognizing his significant contributions to FFA and agricultural education.

During Nelson's tenure at CHS, he was a tireless advocate for agricultural education and agriculture educators. The CHS Foundation provided key leadership in the development of strong agricultural education programs within the states that are served by CHS cooperatives. Under Nelson's leadership, the Teach Ag Ed campaign was supported, and he has shared his passion and commitment to agricultural education with state and national officers as well as teacher leaders.

"The VIP Citation recognizes the dedicated individuals who contribute to the FFA mission of student success through their hard work and cooperation," the organization's CEO, Mark Poeschl, said. "Without such strong and outstanding commitment, FFA would not be able to help build strong character in its members, who in turn build strong families, communities and businesses."

The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 629,367 student members who belong to one of 7,757 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
