INDIANAPOLIS (Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015/National FFA Organization) – Growing up on a small beef cattle farm in rural southern Ohio kept Sydney Snider engaged in agriculture on a daily basis, but it was her years in FFA that cemented her love for the industry.

“Serving as a state FFA officer developed my leadership abilities and involvement with agriculture far past my expectations,” she said. “My time as a state officer also helped me realize that service is a value that is rooted deep in my heart. My desire to serve as a National FFA Officer stems from my passion for agriculture and a yearning to serve others.”

Snider was elected to the 2015-16 National FFA Officer team as the eastern Region vice president at the 88th National FFA Convention & Expo.

Other members of the team are Taylor McNeel of Arkansas as president, Nick Baker of Tennessee as secretary, Abbey Gretsch of Georgia as southern region vice president, Abrah Meyer of Iowa as central region vice president, and Sarah Draper of Utah as western region vice president.

Originally from Felicity, Ohio, and an agricultural communication major at The Ohio State University, Snider is a former Clermont County Pork Producers Queen, a member of the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow and was a 2015 Ohio State Fair Ambassador for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation.

Within FFA, she was the Ohio FFA president and secretary and the president, reporter, and student advisor of the Felicity-Franklin FFA. Her supervised agricultural experiences included beef, swine and goat production and work in the Agriculture Education Placement for the Felicity Agriculture Education Department, where she developed and presented lessons on agriculture and FFA and served as a peer mentor.

As a student at Felicity Franklin High School, she was a varsity cheerleader and volleyball player, vice president of the school’s class government and National Honor Society, a Ohio 4-H State Skill-A-Thon Team member and the school’s 2013 class valedictorian.

Each year at the National FFA Convention & Expo, six students are elected by delegates to represent the organization as national officers. Delegates elect a president, secretary and vice presidents representing the central, southern, eastern and western regions of the country.

National officers commit to a year of service with the National FFA Organization. Each travels more than 100,000 national and international miles to interact with business and industry leaders, thousands of FFA members and teachers, corporate sponsors, government and education officials, state FFA leaders, the general public and more. The team will lead personal growth and leadership training seminars for FFA members throughout the country and help set policies that will guide the future of FFA and promote agricultural literacy.

Upon graduation from college, Snider hopes to find a career within agriculture working in the area of communications/public relations.

“I want to help members nationwide discover and utilize their gifts by encouraging them to take full advantage of what FFA can provide them,” she said.

The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 629,367 student members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,757 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
