Toyota executive appointed to National FFA Organization’s board of directors

INDIANAPOLIS (Monday, July 25, 2011/National FFA Organization) – Toyota Motor Sales USA executive Matt Gonzales has been appointed to the National FFA Organization’s board of directors. The appointment was announced this week in Washington, D.C., by U.S. assistant secretary for vocational and adult education Dr. Brenda Dann-Messier.


Gonzales has held various titles with Toyota Motor Sales USA based in Torrance, Calif., since 1982. He currently is corporate manager of compensation, benefits and Human Resources Information Systems, responsible for all compensation programs, HR administration and global HR programs for the company. Previously, he served as corporate manager of organizational development, human Resources and labor relations at Toyota.  He was also national education and development manager for the company’s University of Toyota, one of the nation’s top 10 corporate university training programs.


During his career at Toyota, Gonzales has served as national new business planning manager for strategic planning and real estate and facilities national manager.  Prior to joining Toyota, he was an accountant and financial analyst with General Motors Corp.


“My involvement with FFA began in early 2008 when I was asked to meet a number of local officers who were visiting Toyota’s corporate headquarters,” Gonzales said. “Since, I have been consistently impressed with the students, teachers and staff and managers of the FFA with whom I’ve had the pleasure to work. FFA is doing the right things at the right time for America’s youth.”


A graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., Gonzales earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics.  He also earned a master’s degree in business administration and international leadership from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.


“I am pleased to appoint Mr. Gonzales to serve as a member of the National FFA Organization’s board of directors,” Dann-Messier said. “This position involves responsibility for the continued development of the National FFA Organization and agricultural education programs across the nation. The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education, extends sincere thanks and appreciation for his willingness to assist in this leadership role for our youth and our economy.”


A resident of Long Beach, Calif., Gonzales is on the president’s advisory board of the Chicago School of Psychology and a member of American Society of Training and Development, Society of Human Resource Management, American Management Association and International Consortium for Executive Development Research.


Formerly known as Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization provides agricultural education to more than 523,000 student members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,487 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
