Just as someone has to properly select the saddle/ bit for the job so do we in FFA when choosing an SAE. It must meet the needs, desires and goals of the individual just as the proper saddle must fit the individual and the horse.

In order for the horse and rider to cooperate they must build a relationship that is continually built on trust and understanding just as people must develop cooperative relationships in order to accomplish tasks.

There is a unique relationship between horse and rider that is developed based on verbal (whoa) and nonverbal (pulling back on the reins) communication in order to achieve the desired outcome. Compare that to the need for verbal and nonverbal communication within groups and how we read those forms of communication.
