Tucked away in the heart of Florida agriculture, Warner University, a small liberal arts college, is launching a brand new agricultural studies degree program. For students seeking the degree in diversified agriculture, another new opportunity will be available on campus starting in the fall: the Warner University Collegiate FFA Chapter!
During the past year, several students currently enrolled in the ag studies program expressed a strong interest to bring Collegiate FFA to Warner’s campus and established a founding committee in August 2012. Students worked diligently to draft the chapter constitution, by-laws, and Program of Activities and collect dues from 10 charter chapter members. Once the chapter votes on April 11, 2013, the Warner University Collegiate FFA Founding Committee will submit an application for charter to the Florida FFA Association and National Collegiate FFA Organization.
Chapter member recruitment will be the focus during the summer and fall months. Looking ahead to the chapter’s first year, the Warner University Colligate FFA plans to initiate several community service projects benefitting the Warner campus and surrounding communities. Also, several professional development workshops have been scheduled to bring in agriculture experts as speakers. Participation in Ag in the Classroom’s Ag Literacy Day as well as the Polk County Farm Bureau’s Agrifest is on the calendar as well.
