Ag career videos from Utah Ag in the Classroom

Ag Ed curriculum for learning-disabled students
An ag ed curriculum repository has been created for learning-disabled students in our classrooms and is accessible to all agricultural education teachers. Sample Learning Objects are provided as a format for pre-service teachers to construct additional LOs on other topics. This may provide a good opportunity for your students to practice curriculum re-design, while also helping to build a valuable resource for our profession. For questions contact Seb Pense, associate professor, Southern Illinois University, sebpense@siu.edu.

Field trips for K-12 schools supported
The Target Field Trip Grants program provides funds for K-12 field trips in order to give students throughout the country the opportunity to explore more of the world outside the classroom. Over 5,000 grants of up to $700 each will be awarded to educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, and classified staff who are employed by accredited K-12 public, private, or charter schools only. (Parents, PTOs, after-school programs, Pre-K centers, and other nonprofit organizations are not eligible to apply.) Types of eligible trips include art, science, and cultural museum visits; community service and civic projects; career enrichment opportunities; and other events or activities away from the school facility. Funds may be used from January 2013 until the end of the school year to cover trip-related costs such as transportation, ticket fees, food, resource materials, and supplies. Online applications must be submitted by Oct. 1, 2012. Visit the website to learn more about the program.

Lead2Feed
The program includes a 10-lesson, standards-based curriculum on the topic of leadership — based on the book, Taking People With You, by David Novak — provided to participating teachers. The lessons are easy to implement and require minimal teacher preparation. Students will work in teams to study leadership qualities, identify a hunger-related problem, develop a solution and execute their plan. The electronic edition of USA TODAY will also accompany the curriculum as a resource. $500,000 in prizes will be awarded to winning teams for their hunger charity as well as teacher incentives and tablets for the top team winner and runner-up. For teacher registration, go to lead2feed.com. Once you sign up, a toolkit will be sent to your school address in September.
