Update January 2012

Welcome to the Agriculture Career Network

The Agriculture Career Network is up and running, and we welcome your questions and comments at membership@ffa.org. Your feedback will assist in the network’s development.

Mark Cavell, the National FFA Organization’s director of information technology, says hands-on learning is the best way to acclimate to the system.

“We encourage students to get in early. The more people that are in, and the more people that are using it, will give us the tools and the data to continue to develop the network.”

The Agriculture Career Network will help members document their educational achievements, create robust portfolios and pursue recognition and employment opportunities.

National FFA Week is Feb. 18-25!

To demonstrate the impact FFA members can have in their local communities, this year we’re planning a national CAN-struction event. Have a canned food drive then use the cans to build some sort of design. Take a picture of the design and send it to media@ffa.org. Include information such as the number of cans collected and your donation plans. We’ll build a photo album on the FFA Facebook page to demonstrate how chapters across the country are helping their local communities. For more event and activity ideas, visit www.ffa.org/ffaweek.

Got scholarships? FFA does

The National FFA Scholarship Application is live! Information, the online scholarship Application and a variety of helpful tools are available on the scholarship homepage. Our top three sponsors in 2012 are Ford, Cargill and AGCO. Review eligibility requirements for these and other scholarships in the 2012 Guidebook, also available on the scholarship homepage. Remember: Applications must be submitted online by 5 p.m. EST Feb. 15. A completed signature page, postmarked no later than Feb. 22, is required to complete eligibility.

Do you have your 2012 Gold and Core catalog?

The new Gold and Core catalogs were scheduled to arrive at your school the week of Jan. 6. If you have not received the 2012-13 catalogs, call customer service, 888-322-2668. For your shopping convenience, an electronic version of the 2012 Gold and Core catalogs are also available on Shop FFA. This easy-to-use electronic catalog allows you to flip through the pages and order by simply clicking on the item you want. Look for a special teachers’ thank-you coupon worth $100 off the purchase of $500 in merchandise, which arrived with the new 2012 Gold and Core catalog. It’s a great incentive to shop early for FFA Week activities and chapter banquets.

Check out the new line of felt banners – perfect for FFA Week and chapter banquets. A new line of Heritage Pewter gifts will give you a great way to acknowledge sponsors and volunteers during FFA Week.

Great deals in the new 2012 Blue Look Book

An updated Blue Look Book featuring the 2011-2012 National FFA Officers was also included in the mailing, with new color logo T-shirts, sale items and other great items from the Blue. The Blue Look Book is also available on Shop FFA in an electronic version.

Reminder: Shop FFA accepts online school purchase orders

When you register at the new Shop FFA store, just indicate “yes” or “no” that as an FFA advisor you are authorized to use purchase orders. Make sure to include your chapter number and name. A customer service representative will verify your information and within five business days provide you with your updated status for online purchase order payment.

2012 chapter T-shirt competition is open for entries

This is an excellent opportunity for FFA chapters to earn money and provide a chapter team event. Contest entries must be received by Feb. 29. Encourage your chapter to participate in the contest by sending a note and this link – www.FFA.org/chaptertshirtcontest. In March, National FFA will select and post 12 T-shirt designs from all entries. The designs will be posted online for FFA members to vote for their six favorite FFA chapter T-shirts. The winning chapters and T-shirt designs will be featured in the 2012 Blue catalog and on Shop FFA. Winning chapters will receive 50 percent of the first year’s profits from the sale of their T-shirt.
