"National officers need to be selected with both high levels of leadership and high levels of character."
We are working to redesign the national officer selection process in order to ensure interview questions are effective at measuring leadership and character. We are also improving nominating committee training to ensure the committee is prepared to evaluate indicators of personal leadership and character.
Once elected as officers we will continue to include character as a central piece of officers' yearlong personal development plan.
"Officers need to understand this is an opportunity to serve the membership rather than it being their personal vehicle for recognition."
We are currently updating materials given to national officer candidates, including a section on what it means to serve FFA members as a national officer. We continue to keep service to FFA members as a priority during training for national officers and infuse service into the officers' yearlong personal development plan and goals.
"National FFA needs to increase the availability of officers to chapters and state associations."
We are evaluating the current priority list of how officer schedules are created and adjusting this list as needed. We're also creating a strategy for assigning requests based on determined priority. Beginning in 2012, due to program revisions officers will gain several weeks in the schedules making the more available for state and chapter requests and functions.
