DESCRIPTION: Milton Hershey School is seeking an Instructional Advisor to oversee the School's Dairy & Food Processing Center, which includes an Ice Cream Center. The MHS Dairy is a 150-head authentic agricultural enterprise that's also an educational center for the School's student body. This position is responsible for providing oversight & leadership to the Dairy & it's staff, as well as collaborating with other staff in the Agricultural & Environmental Education (AEE) department to ensure high quality educational programming for the children & youth.

The goals of AEE include providing high-quality educational experiences in agricultural, horticultural & environmental arenas for all students. Programming is designed to enhance their achievement in all academic areas through first-hand experiences that provide an authentic context for learning, as well as fostering their improved agricultural & environmental literacy. Additionally, more intensive programming is developed & provided to youth preparing for careers & life-styles centered in these fields.

Major responsibilities include the support of the formal educational programs; facilitation of after-school clubs & work experiences; supervision & scheduling of staff; budget administration & oversight of management of day-to-day operations associated with the Center's land & facilities.

ADDITIONAL ASPECTS OF THE ROLE INCLUDE:

  • Oversee the management of all educational resources including, but not limited to the Dairy & Foods Processing Center, the Spartan Ice Cream Center, pastures and general farm buildings.
  • Oversee and participate in herd management, breeding, health, and milking operations.
  • Maintain balanced feed, maintain equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure all regulatory standards are met with respect to dairy and foods processing facilities & activities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, houseparents, administrators, staff & students in the design, implementation & assessment of projects that utilize dairy &/or foods processing contexts for the integration of all scholastic areas.
  • Supervise & coach the staff of the Center, which includes relaying current technologies and information, coordinating work schedules to meet program needs, implementing performance evaluations, and assigning duties.
  • Coordinate, design, and implement after school work, clubs, & projects relating to dairy science & food processing.
  • Network with extension agents, college institutions, agriculture businesses & other members of the agriculture community providing educational support/resources & recommending/implementing best practices based on current research.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Education, Dairy Science, Animal Science or related area strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years dairy management experience preferred. Should have knowledge & experience in breeding, dairy health care, milking & sanitation.
  • Experience in administrative management including staff supervision, scheduling & budgeting a plus.
  • Experience working with children & youth desired. Experience in an educational environment &/or experience with diverse student populations a plus.
  • ServSafe Certification & general knowledge of food science preferred.
  • Strong organizational, planning, supervisory, & interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to maintain and operate equipment. Valid Driver's License required.
  • Ability to interpret & create appropriate dairy/food science educational activities a plus.

MINIMUM SALARY: $41,640.00
