Certified Seed Growers grow and harvest specific seeds which are contracted to seed companies and later sold for use in farming operations. Seeds may be specific for climate, type and characteristics, based on specifications and development by seed companies.

Certified Seed Growers must be very knowledgeable of their clients' needs. Close attention to detail is crucial in the development of the product. Certified Seed Growers must be thinking at all times about how they can effectively market and distribute their products. They must always be working to improve the product for the next year. Certified Seed Growers must keep their salespeople informed of any forthcoming changes so they can advertise and inform their customers. Certified Seed Growers must stay current on new genetic engineering to be able to have the advantage of new developments in disease and parasite resistance. They must be well versed in marketing, genetics, production and public relations.
 
Educational Requirements: 
4 year degree within discipline
 
Suggested High School/Collegiate Courses: 
Agriculture, horticulture, biology, earth science, business and genetics. Degree in Plant Science or Agronomy.
