Kraft Offers Internship Program for FFA Members Through the Collegiate Career Expo
10 college students had the great opportunity this summer to participate in a unique and specialized internship program being offered to FFA members. At last year’s Collegiate Career Expo, Kraft Foods began offering internships in the food industry to participants at the Expo. Throughout the year, applications were received and FFA members were placed in production plants across the U.S.
Krystle Ward, a student at California State University, attended last year’s Collegiate Career Expo. This summer, Krystle worked for the Kraft Pizza Company in Sussex, Wisconsin. Krystle says, “I have learned a ton! I had never seen a food production plant before and I have learned everything from how the pizza is made to how to work on my own and get the information I need to solve my project.”
Kraft intern, Bridget Lyons, is a student at Louisiana State University studying Dairy Foods Technology. At last year’s Collegiate Career Expo Bridget took the time to visit with Kraft about their internship opportunities. She worked with cheese and dairy production operations in Albany, Minnesota. Bridget notes about her experience, “I have always known that the agricultural industry is a global industry and being such, we must think of it and treat it in that manner. The importance of this fact has been reiterated to me through my experience at Kraft. They are the second largest food company in the world and the largest in the United States. As a result, they must continuously be conscientious of what is taking place in the global marketplace as well as be flexible enough to specialize products specific to certain regions.”
Tyler Koger attends Missouri State University. Tyler worked as an intern for a Kraft plant in Springfield, Missouri. Tyler credits his internship this summer and states, “My internship at Kraft has been a wonderful experience and benefited me in more ways than any college course could. This is truly a real world experience with decisions to be made, deadlines to be met, and communication skills put to the test. The FFA organization has given me a strong foundation in the characteristics that Kraft demands from their employees. I would recommend an internship with Kraft to anyone who is serious about a career in the agriculture industry.”
Interview Question of the Week
Q: What salary would you expect for this job?
A:Recruiters want ot weed out people whose financial goals are unrealistic. This question is a direct hit - it forces a response about a touchy subject. If you mention a salary that's too low, you may seem uninformed; too high, and you may outprice yourself or ruin your ability to bargain. It's best to turn the question back on the recruiter. Ask what the salary range is for the position; then ask the recruiter to consider how your qualifications rate the compared to the average requirements for the position.
What would you say to that question?
